A Sunny Day

Let us say we are walking down the street on a beautiful sunny day, and we see a neon light in the distance. The attraction of that neon light draws us toward a passageway leading away from the sunlight under a tall building and eventually into a dark corridor. At this point there’s a door which opens into a dark, dark place. We open that door, enter the dark place and shut the door behind us. AT this point we wonder; how did I get myself into this miserably dark place.
Well, first let’s explain the metaphor. The sunny day is what Paul describes as Walking in the Spirit, and what John describes as, in the Word there is life, and that life is the light of all men. The neon light is these worlds temptations, a selfish though, or worst a reminder of a past hurt.
The corridor represents our mind dwelling on those thoughts of hurt, bitterness or lust. The door at the end of the corridor is a decision we make, based of those dark thoughts. A decision to sin, with hate, fulfilled lust, or some selfish act. Then we find ourselves in a dark place with the door seemingly firmly shut behind us.
But there is hope. Call out to Jesus for help! The panic in your heart will quiet down enough to hear the still small gentile voice of God’s Spirit. His Holy Spirit will afford you just enough sight to look though the darkness and find a small glimpse of light coming from the keyhole or the cracks of the door you came from. Run to that door, open it, and run towards the light.
